Gwyneth Wentink was born in 1981 in The Netherlands, a daughter of Hungarian and Dutch musician parents. Ms. Wentink had her first harp lessons at the age of five. When she was eight she played Mozart’s Concerto for flute and harp in the concert hall ‘De Doelen’ in Rotterdam. At the age of ten she performed for Queen Beatrix. Ms. Wentink studied at the Utrecht’s Conservatory with Erika Waardenburg. On completing her studies she gained the highest possible marks and was awarded a distinction.


As a soloist with orchestra, Ms.Wentink has performed with I Fiamminghi, the Orquesta Sinfonica Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho in Caracas, Venezuela, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bergen, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, the Radio Chamber Orchestra of the Netherlands, the Romanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra and the New York Chamber Symphony where she gave in 2001 in New York her concert début in the Alice Tully Hall.


Gwyneth gave solo recitals all over the world: Paris, Bucharest, London, Chicago, Tokyo, Barcelona, Praag, Rome, Washington DC, Venice, Perugia, Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem en Athens. In 1999 she gave her recital début in New York (Merkin Hall) as well as in London (Wigmore Hall). In March 2002 she gave a concert at the Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She has been traveling extensively throughout the USA in more than 16 states.


Gwyneth has won first prizes since the age of eleven: in the Netherlands: The Young Music Talent Foundation, Prinses Christina Concourse,-etc;-abroad: The International Nippon Harp Competition in Tokyo, the Torneo Internazionale di Musica in Rome. In 1998 she won the most prestigious International Hap Competition in Israel, where she became the youngest contestant ever to win this competition and was given the special Gulbenkian Prize for the best performance of the Concerto for harp and orchestra by M.Schafer. In 1999 Ms. Wentink gained first prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York at the age of 17. She is the first solo harpist ever to be awarded this distinction in Young Concert Artists’40-year history. She has been awarded the Beracasa Foundation Prize, the Mortimer Levitt Career Development Award. In 2000 Gwyneth received the Aaron & Irene Diamond Soloist Prize followed by the Netherland-America Foundation Prize in 2001.


Gwyneth's solo CD, issued by Egan Records, was selected by the Dutch CD Magazine 'Luister' as the month's best buy. In the fall of 2006 Naxos brought out a CD of Gwyneth playing three Harpconcerto’s by Rodrigo. ´Rhapsody´,her second solo CD was released in 2006 and was extremely well received by the critics. Gwyneth is regularly on national and international TV and radio.


Gwyneth plays with great passion in a variety of chambermusic ensembles all over the world and is dedicated to exploring new soundscapes en repertoire for the harp. A variety of compositions have been written for Gwyneth by, among others, Marius Flothuis, Sergei Natra and Roel van Oosten. Since 2005 she plays with the worldfamous Indian bansuri player Pt.Hariprasad Chaurassia in the “Kirwani Quartet”and brings the harp into the world of classical Indian music. In May 2005 they performed in New York where they made a live CD as well as a DVD recording of the concert.


In May 2006 she received the most prestigious award of the Ministry of Culture and Sciences: the Dutch Music Prize. This ceremony has officially taken place in April 2007.
